Invented by Dr. Hogenkamp in 1975 for Forrestal Paper in Barcelona, Spain, the mini-fourdrinier is a big step up from cylinder forming. It allows high speed production without the loss of md:cd tensile squareness. Due to the extremely uniform basis weight distribution, the Dr. Hogenkamp mini-fourdrinier with dilution profiling was recently chosen for the rebuild of a Voith coated board machine in the People's Republic of China! The frame is cantilever just like on the big fourdrinier machines for 30 minute wire change-outs!
This system also provides a good md:cd tensile ratio at much higher speeds than conventional vats. The jet:wire ratio and drainage pressure is adjustable on the run to optimize fiber orientation and formation independently. The thick curved forming shoe is robustly reinforced to ensure years of precision operation. A special roll-out carriage allows for fast and easy cylinder change-outs!
Clients such as Stora Enso and Sonoco Products profit from the flat profiles and glass-like uniformity delivered with the Dr. Hogenkamp Turbo Vat. Dilution Profiling is now a standard feature on the Turbo Vat for 2002. The design is simple yet reliable and has been proven over 300 times on board grades worldwide. Also available with cylinder change carriage.
The forming wire is supported by inclined mini hydrofoils which whisk water through the cylinder for greater forming capacity and lower consistencies for a smoother, better looking surface. Hogenkamp has also eliminated the spider supports so you won't have whitewater splashing back into the forming zone and disrupting the formed mat. Available in a true 100% stainless cylinder - including the solid stainless center support shaft!
This is a rare design which we offer for Banknote Paper where the watermark is embossed in the
the wet formed mat. Due to the various formats of the banknotes and position of the watermarks, the "Expansion Cylinder" streamlines the production process by
eliminating costly machine downtime. If your mill is interested in this concept, please contact
Hogenkamp Research to arrange a meeting with our design staff.
